Coloured Canyon, Egypt

A beautiful multicoloured spectacle in Sinai, Egypt.

The Coloured Canyon is a beautiful colourful canyon situated in Sinai, Egypt. Millions of years ago, Sinai was under the sea and the ancient ocean left a beautiful legacy upon the landscape of the canyon once the water dried up. A visit here will give you an instant understanding of its name. The walls of the canyon, created by the weathering and erosion of water upon the sandstone and limestone formed deep colouration of the rocks giving the canyon walls a metallic and prismatic sheen, and in some parts, the stone is very smooth that it appears soft and malleable. The canyon entrance is accessible by car and is perfect for hiking too. It would be best to traverse through the canyon on foot though. As you venture into the canyon, the walls narrow in width to a few feet, creating an intimate, close atmosphere. What’s more, you will get to take your time and truly soak in the various shades of colours too, which is something a lot harder to do if you were in a car. The colours swirl and change with every step you take as well, due to the sun’s different positions, making this canyon a fun-filled hiking experience that always has something new to delight your eyes.
