Beijing National Stadium (国家体育场)

The Bird’s Nest.

Also affectionately known as the Bird’s Nest, the Beijing National Stadium was the main venue for the 2008 Olympic Games. It is also set to host the opening and closing ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. The landmark was designed by Swiss architects, Herzog and de Meuron, and a Chinese architect, Li Xinggang, and was built to withstand an earthquake as strong as a magnitude eight on the Richter scale. It even collects rainwater which is then recycled throughout the stadium for tasks such as flushing the toilets or controlling fires. It also happens to be the world’s largest steel structure.

If you plan your visit to coincide with the Happy Snow and Ice Festival which is held annually at the Beijing National Stadium from December to February of the following year, you will be in for a treat at the largest ski resort in urban Beijing! With more than 30 diferent kinds of winter sports activities in store for you such as ice skating, bumper cars on ice, ski jumping and more, you are guaranteed to have your fill of fun.
