Arctic Cathedral

A beautiful triangular parish church in Tromsø.

Also known as the Ishavskatedralen, the Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø, Norway, was completed in 1965, and has been a landmark of the city ever since. Designed by Architect Jan Inge Hovig, the church looks more like an art gallery that a traditional church. With 11 panels on each side of the roof converging to give this monument its triangular shape, the church is truly a sight to behold.

A unique structure on its own, its stands out starkly against snow-capped mountains and azure blue skies. A must for landscape photographers who are looking for an interesting shot. It is well-known for its stunning glass mosaic designed by artist Victor Sparre on the eastern side, and one look is guaranteed to make you gasp in awe. In the mosaic, you will see a light shine from the hand of God, reaching out in three directions to Jesus Christ, a man, and a woman. With its glorious prism chandeliers (meant to resemble icicles), genuine oak pews, and French Romantic organ, the Arctic Cathedral is a must visit when in Tromsø.
