Archbasilica of St. John Lateran

The highest ranking church in Rome.

Lined with majestic columns of stone and marble, the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran is certainly one of the grandest church in Europe and also the oldest. It is one of the four major basilicas in Rome. One step into its immaculate hall is all it takes to bring a silent tear to any appreciative eye. Over the many centuries of its existence since being founded in the 4th century, the cathedral has survived fires, earthquakes, and even a bombing! While it maintains its original form, it has unsurprisingly been renovated on many occasions, notably around the 1600s. Nonetheless, it is still one impressive beauty you should not miss.
