Bukhansan National Park (북한산국립공원)

A scenic national park of natural and cultural significance.

Bukhansan Mountain is situated in the northern part of Seoul. Designated as a national park in 1983, the mountain is 78.45km wide and has six districts. The sharp peaks provide stunning contrast to the dozens of valleys and rivers flowing below. There are about 1,300 species of animals and plants living on the mountain. The world-famous granite rock peak Insubong is over 200m above sea level, with about 100 mountain paths leading to the rock. Many historic attractions occupy the mountain areas, including Bukhansanseong Fortress, which was built along the mountain's ridges to prevent invasion, as well as Sangunsa Temple. Bukhansan is perfect for hiking in all seasons but especially so in Fall, where the temples and pavilions shine in all their autumn colors. In Winter, the snow-covered mountain scenery presents another kind of allure, yet no less beautiful. The park averages five million visitors yearly and has received the Honour of being in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the national park with the highest number of visitors per square foot.
