Atsuta Shrine (熱田神宮)

See the sacred Shinto shrine from centuries ago.

Known by different names such as Atsuta-sama and Miya, the Atsuta Shrine is a great place to go and pay respects to the Shinto religion. This beautiful shrine in Nagoya, Japan, is nearly 2 millennia old, established when the sacred sword of Kusanagi-no-tsurugi was enshrined by Miyasuhime-no-Mikoto. Unfortunately, much of the original structure was damaged during the wars, but renovation works were undertaken and completed in 1955 to the structure you see today. There is a great number of exhibitions you can visit, including the fascinating Tea Ceremony Houses. Don’t miss out on seeing the priceless treasures consisting of all sorts of items from daggers, to dance masks, to paintings, displayed in the Treasure Hall on a monthly rotational basis.
