Alnes Lighthouse

A quintessential red and white striped lighthouse perched on a grassy peninsula.

Set against the baby blue skyline, Alnes Lighthouse is an operational coastal tower located in the middle of the scenic windswept plains of the town of Ålesund. The interior is made entirely out of wood, from the flooring to the walls to the rafters, as well as its nine flights of stairs. As you climb to the balcony atop the lighthouse, you will be met with gorgeous vistas of the coastal landscape, its sparkling ocean view, its sleepy houses dotting the green fields, and its sloping mountains in the distance. You can also take a gander at the exhibition space in the old light keeper’s house, where the history of the lighthouse and various art pieces are displayed. Or perhaps you would rather indulge in some delicious homemade cakes at the café located just adjacent to the lighthouse while admiring the calm landscape rolling across your vision. Alnes Lighthouse is definitely a beacon hotspot you cannot miss out.

Tips Before You Go
Besides the gorgeous scenery, the cakes sold at the café here are simply to die for. Visitors to the lighthouse are missing out if they do not partake in some lovely cake and coffee. The art pieces on display in the lighthouse are also a brilliant prelude to the breath-taking sights that you will see once you get to the top. As it doesn’t have an elevator, this lighthouse may not be the most accessible place however.
